A Sheboygan contractor who serves as an official on three city committees reached an agreement with prosecutors on a criminal charge against him.

Pete Strysick was charged with theft by contractor earlier this year after he failed to install a sliding glass door for a local couple and failed to return their $2,500 deposit check. Strysick said he was planning on paying the couple back and had contacted them about working out a plan when charges were filed.

According to court documents, Strysick entered into a deferred conviction agreement with prosecutors Monday. Under the agreement, Strysick would have the charges dismissed a year from now if he commits no other violations in that time and prosecutors don’t revoke the agreement. He will also have to pay $2,500 in restitution.

Strysick serves on the Architecture Review Board, the Board of Zoning Review and the Board of Contractors Examiners. Strysick had offered Sheboygan Mayor Mike Vandersteen his resignation as a result of the charges, but Vandersteen did not accept it, saying there was no need until the case was resolved one way or the other.

Vandersteen, when asked for comment, said the deferred conviction agreement was sort of “in between” a conviction and dismissal and that he would probably allow Strysick to finish out his remaining terms on various boards.

Strysick’s term on Board of Appeals and Board of Contractors Examiners ends in April 2016, while his term on the Architectural Review Board ends in April 2017.
