Community Playground at Resica: Three-day Build Blitz, Resica Elementary School, 1 Gravel Ridge Road, East Stroudsburg. Seeking volunteers, skilled and unskilled, to help with building the playground, child care, meal prep, art center. The playground needs to get finished this weekend and help is needed to make it happen. Children 10 to 14 can assist building with a parent, 15 to 17 can assist in a group (no power tools), 18 plus work on anything with power tools. Three free meals a day, free childcare. Annual Art Exhibition: Coolbaugh Township Historical Association, Wills Mansion, 5590 Municipal Drive, Tobyhanna. Categories judged are acrylics, crafts and sculpture, mixed media, digital arts, photography, watercolor, oils and drawings. NEPA BlogCon 2015: East Stroudsburg University, 200 Prospect St., East Stroudsburg. NEPA BlogCon is a nonprofit annual event for bloggers, social media mavens, tech ninjas, thinkers, dreamers, students, nonprofits and businesses to learn about optimizing online communication. Whether it’s to build a professional brand through blogging, community building and social networking or to make career connections through social media, attendees will learn about tools they need to make it happen through tracks in marketing, business and technology. Hike to the Top: 10 a.m., Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center, 8050 Running Valley Road, Bartonsville. Join Brittney Coleman for a discovery hike to the top of the unnamed ridge across the road from the EE Center building. These seldom used trails offer opportunities to see undisturbed wildlife, a huge glacial erratic boulder and do some off-trail exploring in search of a scenic vista at the top. The hike is not strenuous, but it is steep in spots, so we’ll take it easy. Wear proper hiking shoes or boots, and bring water and a snack. Cost: $5, nonmembers, $3, children under 12 and free for EE Center members.

Nearly New Shop: Route 390, Mountainhome. The shop is no longer accepting summer consignments. Now accepting fall consignments. Every Tuesday is consignment days from 10 a.m. to noon. Owl Fest: noon to 4 p.m., High Acres Park, Route 447, Canadensis. This event is being held to celebrate the saw-whet owl and inform the public on how they can help. There will be various speakers and activities, including Kathy Uhler from the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation, Jackie and Darryl Speicher from the Pocono Avian Research Center, Sara Green will help assemble owl nesting boxes. There will also be an owl photo station, family crafts, live music, food, games and more. The Pocono Avian Research Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting birds in the area through research education and community involvement. This event was created by Jackie Speicher, Darryl Speicher, and Sara Green as a part of Sara’s Girl Scout Gold Award Project.

“The American Presidency”: Guest speaker Dr. Brian Alnutt will look at successful past American presidencies at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 16 at the Clymer Library, 115 Firehouse Road, Pocono Pines. Guests will examine these leaders’ objectives and the political interactions that contributed to their successes or failures, including former Presidents George Washington, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, James Buchanan, Theodore Roosevelt, Warren Harding, Harry Truman, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, among others.
