Single App Chrome Device Management for kiosks and digital signage

In yet another sign of the way in which digital advertising is morphing into different areas, Google has announced a new Chrome Device Management console that is aimed at managing digital signs and kiosks.

The Single App Chrome Device Management (Single App CDM) is the latest move from the search engine giant that sees it evolving its advertising capabilities to provide an all-encompassing service to marketers.

Remote re-boot

The new app gives businesses the chance to monitor the health of kiosks and signage at all times, including creating alerts for when an installation goes offline.

A major advantage is that it provides advertisers with the ability to reboot faulty devices remotely, saving time and outlay on having an engineer make a location-specific visit to effect repairs.

As well as this, the Single App CDM also gives live updates about the usage of a system and allows users to capture screen grabs to check what is being shown at any one time.

Dynamic content

The Single App CDM supports a range of devices, including the ASUS Chromebit, which is now available after being trialled earlier in the year.

This device can be used to integrate into what Google calls a “broad spectrum” of signage configurations.

Vidya Nagarajan from Google explained: “For example, the menu boards at a coffee shop or cafe could be powered by Chrome devices like the Chromebox, Chromebase and Chromebit, running a Chrome Kiosk app that displays relevant, dynamic content.”

Nagarajan added: “Combined with our rich partner ecosystem of Chrome Kiosk apps from StratosMedia, Telemetry, Arreya, SignageLive, Wondersign, Nutrislice, Chrome Sign builder and many others, we have a solution to support any scenario.”

Enhance experience

With more businesses around the world now using DIY-service models alongside integrated mobile, digital signage and kiosk technologies, customer experience is being increasingly personalised by marketers.

The new app is intended by Google to keep the administration a simple process while the customer experience continues to be enhanced.
