UAE's upcoming projects will form an integral part of the global digital signage industry, which is expected to touch $20.03 billion by 2020, according to a report by Grand View Research Inc.

Digital signage is a form of electronic signage displaying television programming, menus, information, advertising and several other messages. Digital signage such as LCD, LED or projected images can be found in public and private environments in UAE, such as retail stores, hotels, restaurants and corporate buildings and the industry is well established. Signage layouts which are customised have evoked a strong market response, which fosters an immersive viewing experience.

"Dubai is home to some of the best digital signages and the industry is set to grow due to the current spend in the development if multi-billion dollar malls and other high end projects," said Abdul Rahman Falaknaz, chairman of IEC at the SGI Dubai show. SGI Dubai caters to the needs of exhibitors and visitors in the signage, outdoor media, screen and digital printing industries.

Over 400 global and regional exhibitors are taking part at the 19th edition of the event, which is expected to receive over 13,000 visitors from 78 countries. Falaknaz noted that weather and high temperatures were a big stumbling block for the industry, which has preferred static signages in busy areas such as Sheikh Zayed road and other parts of the country. "Digital signage doesn't have its scope limited to retail, hospitality, and tourism, but also spreads out to revolutionise niche sectors.
